Blake Scholars at Charles Armstrong School

BMF will provide scholarship funds for Armstrong students who are eligible for tuition assistance and who demonstrate an interest – similar to Blake – in art, design, or engineering. Blake Scholars will be notified of their award and association with Blake, and the school will provide narratives about their progress.

Ryan Cafferkey, a 5th grader at Charles Armstrong School, was selected as a Blake Memorial Foundation Scholar for the quiet leadership, empathy, and thoughtfulness he brings to his school community. Originally from Our Lady of Angels and a resident of Burlingame, Ryan joined Armstrong in the 4th grade and immediately began to thrive.

From day one, Ryan stood out—not with volume, but with presence. His teachers describe him as a “quiet contributor and problem solver,” someone who consistently shows compassion, emotional awareness, and a strong sense of integrity. He quickly learned to advocate for his own needs while remaining deeply considerate of those around him.

A standout example of Ryan’s character came during recess, a time that can be both joyful and challenging for many students. Sensing that some classmates were feeling left out, Ryan took it upon himself to create a new game that included everyone who wanted to play. He crafted the rules with care, making sure all students felt welcomed and supported—a small act with a big impact.

Ryan’s ability to lead with kindness and build inclusive spaces reflects the very spirit of the BMF Scholarship. He is a young person who not only understands the value of community but actively contributes to it in meaningful ways. Blake Memorial Foundation is proud to support Ryan and looks forward to all the ways he’ll continue to grow and inspire.

Lauren McCarthy

Lauren McCarthy, an 8th grader at Charles Armstrong School, has been a valued member of the community since joining in 3rd grade from Central Elementary in Belmont, where she and her family live. Over the years, Lauren has grown into a multi-talented artist and active contributor to school life. Whether she’s behind the scenes with the Musical Tech Crew or helping capture memories as part of the Yearbook team, Lauren brings creativity, dedication, and heart to everything she does.

Known for her "fashion-forward" flair—especially during Spirit Weeks—Lauren has a unique style that reflects her individuality and confidence. Her classmates hold her in high regard, both as a loyal friend and a steady presence in the classroom. She leads by example, steering clear of the typical middle school drama and consistently showing maturity beyond her years.

Lauren’s teachers describe her as “authentically herself,” someone who radiates quiet confidence and contributes positively to the school community. She has not only thrived academically but has also become a role model for her peers.

We are proud to support Lauren’s journey and celebrate the remarkable young person she is. She will no doubt continue to shine as a Blake Literacy Scholar, bringing her creativity, character, and leadership into all she pursues.
